Charles Melvin Green, Jr., 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital. He was born on March 9, 1937, in Vincennes, Indiana, the son of Charles Melvin Green Sr. and Margaret Lee (Hames) Green-Carter. He married Winnifred Anne Howder on February 22, 1958, and together they enjoyed fifteen years of marriage until her passing on January 7, 1974.

Charlie faithfully served his Country in the United States Marines. He was very proud of his service in the Marine Corps and remained very patriotic throughout his life. He was a baseball fan and greatly enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs and the New York Yankees. Charlie found comfort in spending time in prayer. He loved his family dearly and kept them #1 in his heart. His favorite thing to do was spoil his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Charlie will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Charlie leaves behind his daughter, Cheryl Anne Swatsley; grandchildren, Shannon Danielle Swatsley, Kenneth Charles Swatsley, Dakota James Swatsley; great-granddaughters, Bryleigh Rae Swatsley, Malaya Anne Swatsley; sister, Vereal Sutton; and many family and friends whom he cared for deeply.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Winter LeAnne Swatsley; stepfather, Garold Carter; and longtime companion, Edie Edwards.

Graveside Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Bob Swatsley officiating. Full Military Honors will take place to honor Charlie’s Military Service.
