Shirley Jean Healy, 76

Shirley Jean Healy, 76, of Mt. Zion, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

She was born February 27, 1945, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois to Harvey Cyril “Sid” and Christina Bernadine (Banks) Rutter.

She grew up in the Free Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel. She graduated Mt. Carmel High School Class of 1963. Then she attended SIU-Carbondale graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Most of her career in teaching elementary school was spent in District #348. Shirley retired in 2003 after teaching for thirty-six years. She was very proud of her career and the children’s lives she impacted. She worked as an election judge in the community.

Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends, she loved traveling, especially to Niagara Falls in 2015 and visits to San Francisco, California and Atlantic City, New Jersey. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and treasured her many trips to Wrigley Field to watch her team play.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Brian Jeffrey Healy of Mt. Zion, Illinois, and Ryan Joseph Healy; brother John (Marilyn) Rutter of Evansville, Indiana, and sister Louise (Charlie) Acree of Mt. Carmel, Illinois

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Charles Rutter and Mary Jo Gatewood.

The funeral service for Shirley Healy will be Monday, February 28, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, Illinois. Visitation for relatives and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
