Jewel R. Ayscue, 87

Jewel R. Ayscue, 87, of Keensburg, Illinois, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021, at Encompass Health Deaconess Rehabilitation Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.  She was born on April 13, 1934, the daughter of James and Ruby (Travis) Massengill.  She married Hugh Ayscue and he preceded her in death in 1977. 

Jewel was a wonderful cook.  She worked at several local restaurants including Little Don’s Café, Home Café, and Shell Food Carnival.  She was lovingly nick named “Flo” for her cooking skills and quick wit.  Jewel was a very independent woman with a strong will.  She had a great sense of humor and had several favorite sayings that family and friends referred to as “Jewel-isms”.  She was an avid Game Show Network enthusiast and loved coloring pictures.  Jewel was a member of Gospel Kingdom Church.  She loved her family dearly and greatly enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jewel leaves behind her children, Kay Mundy and husband Dennis of York, SC, Tammie Ayscue of Evansville, IN, Mitzi Oldendorf of Evansville, IN, Donnie Ayscue of Mt. Carmel, IL, Rosa Ayscue of Keensburg, IL; thirteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Massengill.

Jewel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Bob, and Buddy Massengill; three sisters, Noonie Elmore, Phyllis DeLuca, Gerry Harris; one great-grandchild. 

 A private Graveside Service will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Brother John Peach officiating.  Jewel will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jewel’s memory to Gospel Kingdom Church and may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 N Cherry St.  Mt. Carmel, IL  62863.
