Beulah Eileen (Wieneke) Koenig, 90

Beulah Eileen (Wieneke) Koenig, 90, of Seymour, Missouri, formerly of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away at her home on July 9, 2021.  She was born on January 17, 1931, in Roxana, Illinois, the daughter of Frederic J. and Gertrude E. (Thurm) Wieneke.

Beulah graduated from Jerseyville Community High School in 1949 and began working for the local Farm Bureau.  She married Charles J. Koenig of Dow, IL on August 16, 1952, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grafton, IL, and they were married 66 years before his death in 2019.  Beulah was a member of St. Mary’s and St. Sebastian Catholic Churches in Wabash County, IL, and St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Ava, MO.  She and Charles lived in Mt. Carmel for 44 years, before moving to a family farm in Southwest Missouri in 2011, where they remained until their deaths.

Beulah was always caring for others, either at home or in the community, and cherished spending time with family.  She was a full-time homemaker until her younger children began attending St. Mary’s Catholic School in Mt. Carmel.  Beulah worked part-time as a bookkeeper for Shaw Brothers in Mt. Carmel and later began working as a cook in the St. Mary’s School cafeteria, then doing the same at Wabash Valley College. 

Beulah and Charles had seven children; six sons, Stephen (Jean) Koenig, Alan Koenig, Vernon (Trish) Koenig, Raymond (Tammy) Koenig, Marvin Koenig, and Brian Koenig; one daughter, Carolyn (Terry) Myers, fifteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; her son, Alan; her parents and three siblings.

Family and friends are invited to gather for the Visitation from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021 at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Robert Zwilling officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mount Carmel, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Beulah’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home 1500 N. Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
