ROBERT E. MUNDY, II, 83

Robert E. Mundy, II, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born October 24, 1937, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the eldest son of Robert and Nedra Mundy. He was predeceased by both of his parents, his sister Martha Jane Mundy and brother William Guy Mundy.

Bob graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in 1955 and Northwestern University in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. That same year he married Mary Schaefer of Scarsdale, New York, and she survives after 62 years of marriage. He and Mary had three children, David Mundy of Stamford, CT, Sarah (Greg) Ewald of St. Louis, MO. and Lisa (Kelly) Schroeder of Mt. Carmel, IL; as well as seven grandchildren, Robert Ewald, Andrew Ewald, Laura Ewald, John Schroeder, David Schroeder, Mary Schroeder and Anne Schroeder.

Bob worked with Mundy Insurance and Real Estate Agency, Inc., as Partner, then as President. The business was founded in 1913 by his grandfather E. Guy Mundy.

He was involved in banking for over 40 years as Officer and Director of Wabash Savings Bank, Security Bank and Trust/Old National Bank as Chairman and Director, and The First National Bank of Allendale as Director.

Bob was active in the formative years of Wabash Valley College. He was one of five original incorporators of the Wabash Valley College Foundation, where he served as Chairman for seven years. He was an elected member of the Board of Trustees of District #529 for 16 years, early in the development of the four-campus district.

Bob was 2-time Chairman of Southeastern Illinois Counseling Centers, a multi-county mental health service.

He was a lifetime member of Trinity United Methodist Church having served as Board Chairman and longtime Financial Officer. Bob was a member of the Mayflower Society, former President, and 50+ year member of Rotary, Masons, Shriners, Elks, Eagles, Chamber of Commerce, Area Industrial Commission, and the Mt. Carmel Airport Board.

Despite being born in Wisconsin, Bob and his ancestors lived in Wabash County since the early 1800’s around the time Illinois became a state.

Bob loved his family and church.

Friends and relatives may come to a visitation for Bob on Saturday, July 24, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church (512 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois). The funeral service will be held after the visitation at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
