Lorene Rutter, 91

Lorene Rutter, 91, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021, at Oakview Heights surrounded by the love of her family. 

She was born December 21, 1929, in Olney, Illinois, the daughter of Wallace E. and Kathleen (Yelch) Compton. Lorene graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the class of 1947. On December 19, 1947, she married Robert “Bob” Rutter in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  

Lorene worked as a secretary/clerk for Sphar & Company, Allendale Gravel and retired after working twelve years at Wabash Valley Soil and Water Conservation District. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, served on the church council, and was delighted to do every task she was given. Lorene was also a member of the Wabash General Hospital Auxiliary and Mt. Carmel Women’s Club. She had many friends. Lorene liked working puzzles and reading. Most of all Lorene loved being with her family. 

Left to cherish Lorene’s memory are her children Steven (Alice) Rutter of Georgetown, Illinois, and Stanley (Georgia) Rutter of Evansville, Indiana; grandchildren, Kerri (Scott) Zorn, Douglas Rutter and Lorrie Rutter; and great grandchildren, Haleigh, McKayla and Jayson Zorn, and Koke and Karizma Rutter.  

Lorene is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Max Compton, and Bobbie Kizer. 

Friends and family are invited to a visitation Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  

Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2021, in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home with burial following at Highland Memorial Cemetery.  

COVID-19 precautions, wearing of face coverings, social distancing and use of hand sanitizer is recommended. 

Memorials can be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Carmel. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
