Charlotte Carol Johnston, 79,

Charlotte Carol Johnston, 79, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on November 17, 1942, in Hartford, Kentucky, the daughter of Yerkes and Irene (Westerfield) Tinsley. 

In her earlier years of employment, Charlotte had several jobs in factories, delivering mail and even coal mining in the underground mines of Kentucky.  She became the first female boss at Amax Coal in Wabash County, Illinois, and remained there for twenty years.  She was an EMT volunteer and returned to college in 1994 to earn a degree as a Registered Nurse.  She worked for fourteen years in nursing before retiring at age 65.  Charlotte was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She raised six children with great love and guidance and treasured time spent with them.  She also loved her puppy, Harper.  Charlotte enjoyed being outside tending to her pretty flowers, gardening, and fishing.  She was a Kentucky Basketball fan and she often ventured out to spend time at yard sales, junking, antiquing and clearance shopping.  Charlotte was loved by many and will be dearly missed. 

Charlotte will be lovingly remembered by her children; Whayne (Teresa) Johnston, Richard Johnston, Jeff (Tammy) Johnston, Lisha (Rick) Pohl, Lori (William J.) Dardeen, Kelly (Brad) Bolin; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild to arrive soon; sisters; Ima Ward, and Yvonne Allen. 

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mona Tinsley, and Faye Jones. 

The family will gather for a Private Graveside Service at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
