Shirley A. Barnett, 86, of Mt. Carmel, IL passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital.

She was born on August 1, 1935 in Mt. Carmel, IL, the daughter of Carl and Mary (Moade) Singer. Shirley married James “Joe” Barnett on January 16, 1954 in Shawneetown, IL and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2012.

She saw the world with her family while her husband was in the United States Airforce and after his retirement, they settled in Mt. Carmel in 1972. Shirley then started a career with Whirlpool. She loved her family the most and enjoyed every minute spent with them.

Left to cherish Shirley’s memory is her children, David (Cherry) Barnett of Murrieta, CA, Rebecca Thornton of Mt. Carmel and April Barnett of Mt. Carmel; six grandchildren, James Miller, Michael Miller, Lora Biene, Marie Pimentel, Amber Barnett, and Patrick Barnett; four great-grandchildren, Heather Miller, Sylvia Miller, Sacura Miller, and Remington Osmon; four great-great grandchildren, Emmalee Cheesman, Dante Cheesman, Greyson Cheesman, and Olivia Miller; two brothers, Jack Singer and Don Singer.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Phyllis Coffey; son-in-law, Lonnie Thornton; great-grandchild, Jamie Lea Miller.

Per her wishes she is being cremated and no services will be held.
