Phyllis Jean (Skiles) Schucker, 92

Phyllis Jean Schucker, 92, peacefully passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020, at her residence surrounded by her loving children.

She was born February 12, 1928, at Hutchinson, Kansas, the youngest child of Charles and Cecile (Tinsley) Skiles.  Phyllis graduated from Mt. Carmel High School.  She went to the University of Illinois, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science Degree, Cum Lade.  On August 20, 1949, Phyllis married Russell Schucker in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on December 8, 1992, after 43 years of marriage.

Phyllis was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Sisterhood.  She was an avid bridge player, High School math and science teacher for District #348 and Allendale, on the Wabash General Hospital Board, den mother, Girl Scout leader and on the Shagbark Board.  Phyllis was a social butterfly and enjoyed being with friends and family.  Her most cherished times were with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren who called her Grandma Phyl.  She was a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews and cherished by all her cousins.  She was the BEST mother!

Left to cherish Phyllis’ memory are her children Russell C. Schucker and Kyle M. Schucker of Lakewood, Colorado, Sally Gerrish and her husband Ken of Marietta, Georgia, Stephanie Roark and husband Charles of Sumner, Illinois, and Kimberly Schucker of Robinson, Illinois; eleven grandchildren: Shannon, Alissa, Anne, Jacob, Katie, Sarah, Jamie, Timothy, Rebecca, Maggie, Cassandra and 2 step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and eight step great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Russell; parents; and sister, Marilyn Wilson.

A private service will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Short Funeral Home.

For friends and family, there will be a public drive through visitation at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Wednesday, May 13, 2020, from 11:30 until 12:30.  Please drive in the SOUTH entrance to Highland.
