Max Theron Schroeder, 88

Max Theron Schroeder, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020 at The Waters of Princeton, Indiana.  He was born on November 15, 1932 in Keensburg, Illinois, the son of Cyril Rotramel Schroeder and Anna Laura (Collins) Schroeder.  Max married Marilyn Allen on June 5, 1955 at the Keensburg Christian Church and they have enjoyed sixty-five years of marriage.

Max was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Some of his fondest memories were of spending time with his family, camping, tinkering in the garage and as lead singer in area church choirs.  Max graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1950.  He served in the United States Army at Fort Richardson, Alaska, where he worked as a shoe cobbler.  After his service in the Army, Max returned home to Wabash County where he started working for George’s Shoe Store.  Soon after, Max began working for Snap-On Tools Corporation where he retired after thirty-seven- and one-half years.  Max served his community as Mayor of Keensburg for many years.  He also enjoyed being involved in several local churches.  Max was loved by many and his influence will forever remain in the lives of those that knew him.

Max will be remembered by his loving wife, Marilyn; sons, Jeff Schroeder and wife Betty of Panama City Beach, FL, Greg Schroeder and wife Sonja of Evansville, IN; daughter, Jeanna Hicks and husband Terry of Mount Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Erica Dawn Coram, Eric Jason Wilkas, Dustin (Dana) Schroeder, Tabitha (Josh) Hall, Zachary (Amanda) Hicks, Jordan (Jordyn) Hicks, Marissa (Cameron) Kieffer; great-grandchildren, Alec Wilkas, Tristyn Wyatt, Kristyn Wyatt, Lillie Wilkas, Andrew Wilkas, Sara Dawn Coram, Harley Wayne Coram, Kayne Schroeder, Carter Schroeder, Emma Schroeder, Alicyn Etheridge, Kadyn Cox, Preslie Hall, Luke Hall, Lexi Hall, Charles Hicks, Brayden Hicks, Jackson Hicks, Rose Hicks, Reid Hicks, Grayson Kieffer and Sawyer Kieffer; sister-in-law, Phyllis Schroeder; sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Norman Timberlake; many loved nieces and nephews.

Max was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John C. and Stanley R. Schroeder; one infant sister. 

Graveside Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 11, 2020 at Antioch Cemetery in rural Wabash County, IL with Pastor Allan Wright officiating.  Max’s service to his country will be honored with Full Military Honors.
