Colette J. “Letty” Tennis


Colette J. “Letty” Tennis, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2019 at Oakview Nursing and Rehab surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born May 25, 1931 in Wabash County Illinois the daughter of Francis and Violet (Hilbert) Sandwell.  She married John J. Tennis on February 12, 1952 at the St. Francisville Catholic Church and he preceded her in death.

Letty was a graduate of St. Francisville High School and a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church.  She was a devoted homemaker.  Letty was a very sweet lady who enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts.  She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Letty will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Teresa Jakubisin, Anthony Tennis, Karen Blacklidge, Michael Tennis, Louise (Brent Leatherman) Tennis; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary McInerney, Lois (Charles) Speth; brothers, Donald (Linda) Sandwell, Stephen (Gayle) Sandwell.

In addition to her husband, Letty was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Anthony and Norman Sandwell; brother-in-law, David McInerney.

A Rosary Service will begin at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, February 14, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.  Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation immediately following the Rosary until 8:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2019, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 4921 N 1400 Blvd, Mount Carmel, Illinois with Fr. Robert Zwilling officiating.  Burial will follow at the Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Letty’s memory to St. Sebastian Cemetery or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
