Mildred J. “Millie” Williams, 91

Mildred J. “Millie” Williams, 91, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Transcendent Healthcare in Owensville, Indiana.  She was born on July 30, 1926 in Mount Carmel, Illinois the daughter of Herschel and Minnie (Posey) Bradbury.  She graduated from Harrisburg High School and Wabash Valley College.  Millie married Master Sgt. Richard Edgar Litherland on March 31, 1945 in Lawrenceville, Illinois and they enjoyed twenty-seven years together until his passing on April 18, 1972.

Millie will be remembered as a devoted military wife, mother and grandmother.  Millie was very proud of her service to the country being a military wife.  She loved to travel and see new places and was fond of her stay in the Philippines where she lived twice. Millie worked for many years at the Wabash County Senior Citizens Center where she made many friendships.    She was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. Millie was a fascinating combination of sweetness and sass and will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Millie will be remembered by her daughter, Melody Ann Shannon and husband Jim; grandchildren, Shannon Barton and Justin (Amye) Litherland; five great grandchildren, Cameron, Zachary, Payton, Jackson and Kelsey; sister, Sarah Swatsley; brother, Wilbur Bradbury and several cherished nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard E. Litherland; son, Richard L. Litherland; and brother, James Bradbury.

Graveside Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, 2018 at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel with Bob Swatsley and Pastor Gary Underwood officiating.   

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Millie’s in-home caregivers and also the staff at Transcendent Healthcare for their compassionate and loving care that was shown to Millie.
