WHERE: US RT 51 @ Britt Road – approx. 1 mile south of Patoka

WHEN: 01/19/18 at 8:13pm

VEHICLES: Unit #1 – gray 2017 Nissan Altima – MI registration

Unit #2 – white 2005 Freightliner TT – IL registration

DRIVER: Unit #1 – Maxfield, Max D. 35yo Smith Grove, KY

Unit #2 – Snyder, Dwight W. 60yo Sandoval, IL

CHARGES: Unit #1- Improper Lane Usage

TRANSPORTS: Driver of Unit #1 - was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital

Driver of Unit #2 -was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate that unit #1 was traveling north on US RT 51 near Britt Road, south of Patoka, when it drove into the southbound lane. Unit # 2 took evasive action and swerved to the left in attempts to avoid unit # 1. Both units struck each other on the passenger sides. Unit #1 struck the southbound guardrail before coming to rest. Unit #2 swerved back to the right after contact with unit #1 and then exited the roadway to the right (west side). Unit #1 received extensive damage to the car and the driver required extrication and was airlifted for treatment
